AMY ARROWSMITH

ABOUT ME
My current field of study consists of the exploration into the representation of the human form. Looking into the expression of important personal figures portrayed through inanimate objects, sculpture or installation.
My work being based around affect and effect, either it’s the affect I wish to provoke on the audience, or the effect of certain personal aspects and values. However, only after much self-reflection and self-evaluation did I notice the statements I made within my work. I never have a set theme I wish to portray within my work, most of my works tend to surround topics I think deeply about. The sense of compassion and gentle confrontation that I portray with in my work, surrounding personal emotive subject matter that most have experienced, enables an empathetic view for both me and the viewer. This creates a deeper understanding as well as a more profound connection to others in the world around us, reducing the sense of alienation and forming unity within people through art.
As an artist I have worked a lot with photography, paint, sculpture. I am currently studying a BA hons Fine Art course at Plymouth University, UK. During this course I have worked more with installation based work and alternative materials. Recently I have created more emotive pieces, but previously I have worked with projects inspired by site, the study of art history and political events.
Heavily influenced by the human body, past projects have had this unintentional and underlying theme. The representation of the human form has intrigued me, exploring the idea of portraiture, bones and the external depiction of the body, reprsentation.
Growing up in Stoke-On-Trent and having family members that were handlers and glazers in the ceramics factories I have been heavily influenced by the Potteries. I have created projects on untilising the iconic area i grew up in.
